2018 Young Millionaires of the Year

Kolby and Karley Hardy were chosen as the 2018 recipient for The Award of Excellence.

The Young Millionaires Program (YMP) was coordinated provincially through Central Development Corporation with the assistance of Active Communities Inc., RDEE –PEI, CBDC West Prince Ventures and PEI Business Women’s Association. The program has been offering youth across PEI the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship first hand for 26 years. Through a series of workshops participants ages 8-16 are taught business basics, foundations of successful entrepreneurship, and are guided into developing business plans for themselves. A non-repayable grant of up to $100.00 for the establishment of a sole proprietorship and up to $150.00 for a partnership is given to participants who successfully complete the first three workshops, submit a viable business plan, and start their own summer business.

The entrepreneurs are monitored throughout the summer and a number of group selling activities are scheduled for the businesses during festivals and events, at farmers markets or authorized selling venues. Participants are offered a site visit by the regional coordinators to view their products or service and offered guidance in record keeping, customer service and general encouragement.

An Award of Excellence goes to a young individual entrepreneur or a partnership of young entrepreneurs who have overcome obstacles, have shown personal growth, have reached their goals, either financial or other, have shown creativity in their product, have shown good customer service and have found a product worth developing.

Kolby and Karley Hardy were chosen as the 2018 recipient for The Award of Excellence. Kolby and Karley Hardy are the owners and operators of their business Kolby and Karley’s Kamping Kitz. These sisters saw how difficult it was for people at their campground to start campfires so they decided to offer a solution in the form of kits that contained everything from fire starters to kindling to mosquito bracelets to glow sticks.

Kolby and Karley sold their products at the campground they lived at during the summer as well as other local shops. They also attended the Summerside Sidewalk Sale as well as the Somerset Festival where they experienced particular success. The business was even featured on CBC’s Compass. These young entrepreneurs had a professional sales pitch with Karley bringing the “cuteness” and Kolby bringing the “sophistication”.

Please join us in congratulating Kolby and Karley Hardy!
