A Message From Your Executive Director

A Message from your Executive Director

Dear Chamber Partners, Local Leaders & Friends,

I’m just going to be honest and say what’s on everyone’s mind… this sucks. There is no way around it. It has been a hard couple weeks to be in leadership, and I imagine for most of you, it’s been a hard couple weeks to be a business owner or employee, a school administrator, a government official, a parent, a student, a friend. What we are currently experiencing is definitely new territory for all of us. Please bear with us as we continue to adapt.

First and foremost, I want to assure you that the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce will continue to be a voice of reason, sharing factual information as it becomes available and will work tirelessly to advocate for and support our local businesses and communities. We are currently working from home but all calls are being forwarded to me so please don’t hesitate to reach out, even if it is outside of normal business hours.

We would like to start posting videos from local business owners regarding who you are, how your business is responding in this situation and how community members can support you. If you would record a short 1-3 minute video answering these questions and send them to me, I will start scheduling out the videos as posts on our Chamber page.

Lastly, I would encourage us to vent or scream in the mirror at home or to a good friend, but then come to the social media table with gratitude and positivity. Why? Because, we need to band together as businesses and community to support one another. Help reduce the hysteria and encourage and uplift one another. Ideas? 1) Post your business doing some random act of kindness. 2) Share something funny (non-covid related). 3) Highlight your staff with a “Meet So & So”. 4) Share fun facts or historical anecdotes about your business. 5) Shout out another local business. And above all, be kind.

We are in this together. We will survive. If you have any suggestions for the Chamber, feel free to email me or just give me a call if you need to talk. I may not have the answer, but I can listen. I value my relationship with each and everyone of you, not just as Chamber partners but as fellow human beings. I am so proud of the measures so many of you are taking already to adapt and showcase leadership to those around you.

With Admiration,

Tara Maddix, Executive Director
Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce
